Joint Supervision

 What is the legal duration of the mission?

It lasts for five years starting from the consent of the university on registration. It is extended year after year according to the needs of the member provided it does not exceed five years. The mission ends at the end of the duration or when the member gets his degree.

Is it legal to travel abroad before the end of the first year of the mission?

The member of the mission has the right to travel abroad for a year to collect the needed material a year after registration according to the decision of the supreme committee of missions on 11/5/2000 to give him the chance of finishing the internal part of his study. He can travel before staying a year if the delegating institution or the Egyptian supervisor see that he is in need of travel abroad to finish the internal part of his study in light of the decision of the executive committee of missions on 30/9/2003.

What are the Requisites of Travel?

·        Deciding the time of travel by the cultural office abroad.

·        Formal consent of the university.

·        Holding ICDL

·        A letter from the supervisor showing the end of the internal part and the beginning of the foreign one

·        A copy of marriage document

·        A permission of travel given by the military authorities.

 What are the procedures the administration follows for the travel of the member?

·        Confirming the reservation by the cultural office.

·        Informing the member of the time of travel on receiving it from the cultural office

·        Giving the member a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate getting the entry visa to the foreign country.

·        The executive committee addresses the cultural office to pay any study fees .

·        Taking the measures of changing the foreign supervisor in case he apologizes or dies.

What is to be done after the member returns home?

He completes the internal part of the mission after the consent of the university and the Egyptian supervisor. Mission is ended when the member gets the degree or the mission duration comes to an end

Can a student apply for a joint supervision mission without arriving at the appropriate linguistic level before travel?

The appropriate linguistic competence   is a pre-requisite for applying to a joint supervision mission.

How can one get a joint supervision mission?

The missions administration assigns a number of missions  and informs the departments of cultural relations  at the university. The university ,in turn, distributes them on its faculties  and then informs the missions administration of the names of candidates.

How can a candidate open a scientific channel?

A scientific channel is opened  through the Egyptian supervisor as he contacts the foreign universities and gets their consent to open a channel between the Egyptian university and the foreign one. The consent includes the researcher’s name ,topic of the research ,duration of the study and the language that the convoy uses in his research. It is addressed to the  senior Egyptian supervisor by e-mail or ordinary mail.

Is there a specific time for applying to the mission?

The administration of missions decides the time of receiving the names of the candidates from the universities and research centers for every annual plan and is given two years to complete the documents of the mission.

What are the appropriate linguistic levels required for the joint supervision mission?

·        A total score of 550 in the international TOEFL for the English speaking countries

·        A total score of  7 in the IELTS for the physicians traveling for England, and  7 in every part of IELTS to get license of work from G.M.C

·        Passing the Z.M.P. test for the German speaking countries from Ghouteh institute in Cairo or Alexandria.

·        Passing the DELF for the French speaking countries from the French Cultural Center in Munirah.

What are the requisites of getting a joint supervision mission?

·        The candidate should not be more than 40 years old when applying to the mission.

·        The candidate should not have registered for PHD for more than three years.

·        Providing all the required documents before the end of the plan.

What are the documents required for applying to the joint supervision mission?

·        The consent of the university president on establishing a scientific channel between the Egyptian university and the foreign one that includes the names of the senior and junior Egyptian supervisors, the name of the student ,the title of the research plan, and a letter from the department of cultural relations specifying the language that the student will use in his study abroad.

·        The origin and a copy of the research plan in Arabic, and another in the language the student will use in his study.

·        A statement showing the part that the student will achieve in the country and the one he will achieve abroad.

·        The origin and a copy of the foreign supervisor’s consent on initiating a scientific channel and admitting the student. It should be addressed to the senior Egyptian supervisor and it should include the topic of the research and its duration, as well as the language of the study.

·        Two C.V.s, one in Arabic, and the other in the language the student will use.

·        A letter from the Egyptian supervisor showing that he has agreed with the foreign supervisor regarding all the details and procedures that will be taken in Egypt or abroad.

·        The date of the consent of the university and faculty on registration, the names of the supervisors ,and the  location of registration(normally a letter from the department of cultural relations at the university).

·        Consent of the security authorities on travel.

·        The B.A. and the M.A. or formal copies of them.

·        A certificate of performance or exemption of the military service.

·        Two personal photographs and two plastic folders.

·        A letter from the delegating institution showing that the candidate is not currently applying to another mission.

·        Fulfilling the financial requirements of the administration ,i.e,the member must come with his  financial sponsor (the sponsor is any relative- father, brother, uncle, cousin, or mother) who should present his/her identity card showing the profession or craft.

·        Concerning ladies, a student should present a medical report showing that she is not pregnant.

·        The ICDL.

How to get the letter of full time study?

After the consent on the member’s application to the joint supervision mission, he is given a letter of full time study.

When does financial treatment for the mission member begin?

The financial treatment for the mission member begins once the executive committee consents on his application to the mission till the end of  the duration of the mission that lasts for five years.

What are the financial rights of the mission member?

*100% of the basic salary monthly if the delegating institution is the registration institution itself, and 200% of the basic salary monthly  in case of registering outside the city where the delegating institution is located in.

·        The student is given an equivalent of a month basic  salary for books and another one for clothes

·        He is given LE1000 yearly.

Notes: These dues give to the mission member for colleting academic data are paid on his arrival home.

  

What are the financial dues of the mission member when he returns home?

·        he is given an equivalent of half a month for book shipping.

·        He is given an equivalent of a month basic salary to help him prepare himself for return home.

·        Travel tickets, and 20 kilos bonus.

What are the financial dues the member gets after holding PHD ?

*LE1000 for writing the thesis.

LE 600 for the supervisors.

Does the member have other dues?

If the member gets his degree before the end of five years, he is given 100% of his basic salary in Egypt per each month of the remaining period. Fractions are not taken into account.

Note:The member of the internal mission receives the same treatment as that of the member of the joint supervision mission either in Egypt or abroad.
