Scholarships and Tuition
Strengthening the cultural relations with various world countries, Egypt offers a number of scholarships that will be awarded based on agreements signed between Egypt and Arab and foreign countries. Nomination of candidates is carried out by these states. Besides, a number of grants is presented by the Foreign Students Committee, an affiliate of the Foreign Ministry. The following regulations apply to the varied scholarships approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and the scholarships of agreements, which do not include any conditions or regulations. First : Higher Studies: · A monthly grant is given to the student starting from the date of registration · The student is granted a preparation allowance (including a grant equivalent to the value of a monthly grant). Scholarship Duration: · Nine months for the students of higher diplomas. This duration is to be renewed if the student gets enrolled for the second diploma, provided that both do not exceed twenty one months. · Twenty one months for students of M.A or higher diplomas. · Thirty three months for doctoral students. Master's and doctoral students may be granted an extension for a period not exceeding six months if necessitated by the study. Second : Students of Governmental Universities and High Institutes · A one-month grant is given to the student as long as he is registered for academic study. · The new student is given a preparation allowance for only one time upon his arrival (equivalent to the value of a monthly grant). · The student is paid a monthly housing allowance if he does not stay in the students hostel. However, if he stays in the students hostel, he is paid a housing allowance for the stay there, plus the value of the monthly salary paid to him. It is to be noted that the student is responsible for paying for the students hostel wherein he stays. · Upon successful completion of study, the student is paid a graduation allowance upon his return to his homeland (an equivalent to the value of a monthly grant). Third : Upper Intermediate Education Students ( Two Years (: · This refers to the students of technical commercial, industrial and health institutes or their counterparts. · The fresh student is paid a preparation allowance only for one time upon his arrival (an equivalent to the value of a monthly grant). · The student is paid a monthly grant during his study. · Upon successful completion of study, the student is paid a graduation allowance upon his return to his homeland (an equivalent to the value of a monthly grant). · The student registered on higher studies, university or upper intermediate scholarship is exempted from paying tuition in hard currency. Grant Suspension Cases: · If the student, registered on a university scholarship, fails for more than two years during study, he is denied the grant. Besides, if the student, registered on one of the technical institutes, fails for more than one year during his study, he is denied the grant. · The student is denied the grant if he is dismissed from the institute or the faculty for whatever reason. Note: · If the student, registered on an academic scholarship, travels abroad, the period of his travel is deducted from his scholarship duration. Then, he is paid anew starting from his return as long as he is registered for study. · If the faculty or the institute accepted the excuse of the student for not being able to enter the exam, this excuse is not considered a failure year. It is to be noted that the excuse may be accepted for only one time during the study years. Facilities for Foreign Students In light of the Supreme Council of Universities decree issued on 7/5/1995 concerning treatment of the sons of Egyptian mothers who are married to foreigners as Egyptian students, and concerning the application of the principle of reduction in terms of payment of fees, the Ministry of Higher Education examines the cases of suspending grants from the categories described later. Moreover, it will take the appropriate decision for each case. The categories are: · Sons of a divorced Egyptian mother. · Sons of an Egyptian widow. · Sons of an Egyptian mother married to a foreigner; a government or Public Enterprise Sector worker; or pensioners who used to work for the government or the Public Enterprise Sector. · Sons of an Egyptian mother who proved unable to pay the fees. · Sons of political refugees residing permanently in the country (born and got all education certificates from Egypt). The applications are submitted in accordance with the forms found at the faculty or institute. All documents shown in this form are to be filled in and sent to the General Department for Admissions and Grants of Foreign Students.
